Many reputable astrologers are currently predicting great societal and political upheaval in the year 2025. That’s because each one of the outer planets — Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus — is entering into a new sign within a relatively small window of time, and it’s happening soon.
Usually when just one of these planets changes signs, it sends shockwaves across the globe. But to have all three of them changing signs so closely together is unprecedented in modern history.
Now, it may be impossible to predict exactly what is going to happen in the future when these planets change signs. However, we can certainly look to history for clues.
First, Pluto is leaving Capricorn, where it has been transiting since 2008, and enters Aquarius on November 19, 2024. It takes Pluto 248 Earth years to orbit once around the Sun. So, the last time Pluto entered Aquarius was when the American Revolution began, shortly following the signing of the United States constitution in 1776.
At the terminal degree of Capricorn, Pluto transforms structures of authority and nation-state power before entering Aquarius to give rise to revolution, innovation, and radical change. This energy was apparent in 1776 as the American Revolution started and The Great British Empire lost its grip on one of its most valued colonies.
Next, Neptune is leaving the dreamy and illusory sign of Pisces on March 30, 2025, where it has been living since 2011, and entering the fiery and volatile sign of Aries.
Neptune spends around 14 years in each sign. So it takes 165 years for Neptune to orbit the Sun and complete a full journey through all of the signs. The last time Neptune entered Aries was in 1861, when the American Civil War began.
The war is said to have started when Confederate troops fired on Fort Sumter in South Carolina’s Charleston Harbor in the wee hours of the morning — around 5:00 AM EST on April 12. Thirty-four hours later, Union forces surrendered and the war began in earnest.
Neptune entered Aries on the 13th of April, just after 3:00 PM, exactly 34 hours after the Confederate attack, at the exact time of the Union troops’ surrender. The exact timing seems a little uncanny.
At the same time, Mars conjuncted Uranus and the moon in the 7th house. Mars—war, Uranus—revolution, the moon—nation, 7th house—partnerships and open enemies. So, this conjunction signaled the American Civil War exactly. Just two weeks earlier, the United States’ birth chart (Sibley) had experienced it’s Uranus return.
How interesting that the two main political groups in the U.S. experienced the greatest rift since the country was founded at this time. Soon thereafter, Uranus conjuncted Mars, named by the Romans after the god of war. Mars rules Aries, who is the warrior archetype and often represents the use of force.

When two planets are conjunct, they amplify one another’s energies. Great upheaval coupled with war is exactly what America went through. These planetary energies reflected what was going on in the United States at the time.
Finally, on July 7, 2025, Uranus is entering Gemini. Uranus, as I mentioned, brings upheaval and dramatic change and is known as the “Great Awakener”. Gemini rules our local neighborhood, siblings, and closest communities.
The last time Uranus entered Gemini was on August 7, 1941, shortly before the U.S. became directly involved in WWII. Two years later, in September of 1943, Uranus experienced it’s return in the U.S. natal chart and one month later, Mars made it’s return in the U.S birth chart as well, just like in 1861.
Now, Uranus’ orbit around the Sun is 84 Earth years, so if we go back another 84 years, prior to WWII, this transit coincided with another political upheaval as well.
Uranus entered Gemini in 1860, less than one year prior to the start of the American Civil War. Shortly after Uranus entered Gemini, the U.S. Congress began to rupture.
In the wake of Abraham Lincoln’s election as president in November of 1860, Southern senators began leaving the Senate to attend secession conventions, while Northern senators called for military preparedness. The nation faced its greatest crisis to date.
In 2026, we are facing the next Mars and Uranus returns, shortly after Uranus enters Gemini. The planet of war and the planet of upheaval are meeting up in the house of relationships and partnerships.
However this may play out in practical terms, we have seen how historically, these returns have coincided with war and ruptured relations between political groups. In 1776, relations between the colonies and the Great British Empire were shaken to their core, and in 1861, civil war broke out between the northern and the southern states.
Now, in 2026, the Uranus and Mars returns are in a slightly looser formation than in the two previous examples, so their disruptive energies may not be felt as powerfully as in years past.
However, if we take a look ahead to July 2028, we find this return will take place once again, but in a much tighter formation. So, the conflicts that emerge in 2026 may be a foreshadowing of what will come in the year 2028.
Nowadays, we often think of astrological shifts in abstract and emotional terms because modern astrology is primarily used as a tool for counseling and interpersonal purposes.
However, ancient astrology was traditionally used to predict world events. Kings and emperors always kept a few astrologers handy for this reason. Nostradamus used astrology to make his many predictions, and many of them have come true.
So, if we remember astrology’s original purpose and consider this poignant example of how literal these shifts manifested in the real world in times past, it may help us take the upcoming transits a bit more seriously when looking to the future.
Considering how the previous ingresses of these planets into these signs coincided with major wars, I would recommend stocking up on supplies, getting some chickens, and preparing yourself mentally for what may come next.
Yet, it’s important for us to not just prepare physically and mentally for what may happen, but to prepare spiritually and emotionally as well. It’s easy to get worried thinking about what might happen. But there’s an angle I’d like to add to the conversation which I feel cannot be ignored.
While we may experience major upheavals in the social and political world when this transit occurs, the collective consciousness is also currently experiencing a massive spiritual awakening, on a level unparalleled in our lifetimes.
Firstly, Pluto entering Aquarius indicates a transformation of social realities. Aquarius is the great humanitarian and also rules friends, the Internet, and technology. Great advances in technology will occur and connectivity between humans across the globe will take on new dimensions, which social media has only just begun to tap.
Even though social media has already proven transformative for humanity by connecting people across the globe, the major players, like Meta, still work in close collaboration with nation-state and old-paradigm authorities. Censorship is as real as ever and anyone who speaks out is “shadow banned”.
With Pluto in Aquarius, there is great potential for new forms of social connection on the Internet to emerge which are governed by decentralized structures. Similarly, “places” on the Internet such as the dark web, which operate outside the usual search engines, may explode in usage.
The Internet, ten years from now, may be unrecognizable compared with the current reality.
While technology is predominantly exploited by wealthy players in the world economy, Pluto entering Aquarius promises to transform social structures and class divisions. Alongside Neptune entering Aries, it means people will become starkly aware of the structures that bind them, like never before.
Furthermore, Neptune entering Aries is not only indicative of potential conflict, it is also the beginning of an entirely new life cycle. Aries is the youngest sign in the zodiac and represents the first house of the twelve, which govern all the areas of life. So, when Neptune enters Aries, it represents a new cycle in the spiritual evolution of humanity.
When Neptune is in Pisces, the sign which it rules in modern astrology, there is an amplification of it’s shadow quality of delusion. In contrast, as Neptune enters Aries, the rose colored glasses will fall from people’s eyes and many people will feel like they are waking up from a long slumber that they didn’t even realize they were indulging in.
At the same time that Neptune is entering Aries, it is conjunct the North Node, which enters Pisces in January of 2025. The North Node is sometimes referred to as the path of destiny. It represents what our souls are moving toward.
The North Node returns to Pisces once every 19 years, and this time around, it brings with it three lunar eclipses in Pisces: the first one took place on Sept 17, 2024, the second one will be on Sept 7, 2025, and the third one will happen on August 28, 2026. A lunar eclipse pattern for three years in a row in Pisces has not graced us since the Pisces north nodal return of 1913–1915.
In an earlier blog post, I likened this phenomenon as harkening to the archetype of the triple moon goddess, a representation of the divine feminine and a calling for women and spiritual practitioners to step into their personal authority and prepare themselves for inevitable leadership roles as tides begin to shift.
Pisces is the archetype of the mystic and healer. People with a north node placed in Pisces in their natal chart are called to embrace the spiritual, trust the unknown, and tap into their intuition in this lifetime.
Many of us who walk a spiritual path, regardless of our north node placement, will experience (and may have already begun to notice) a marked increase in spiritual sensitivities with the return of the north node to Pisces.
Saturn will also become conjunct the North Node when Neptune enters Aries. Saturn is the planet of responsibility and maturity. She sheds light on what area of life we need to get serious about. These combined energies tell us we each need to take responsibility for our spiritual evolution. It won’t happen by accident.
Neptune and the North Node will also be conjunct Mercury, the messenger, and Venus, the lover, at this time. This combines the energies of communication and love with the previously mentioned energies of responsibility and destiny brought to us by Saturn and the North Node.
At a time when we may face external threats, we are reminded that the solution to navigating this time in our communities is loving communication. We need to remember that our neighbors and friends are not the enemy, rather it’s the nation state apparatus leading the world into war.
It may also offer a warning to spiritual leaders that we must maintain empathy in our teachings and not give way to delusion and dogmatism. Let’s remember that these are the very shadow characteristics which color the crumbling structures of power that surround us.
Finally, Mercury conjunct Neptune and the North Node highlights the importance of sharing our message and speaking our truth during these potentially challenging times. If you have been reluctant to shine your light, there is no better way to move with confidence through darkness, than by stepping out of the shadows and shining it brightly for everyone to see.
Now, all of these celestial bodies will also be conjunct Neptune, which I mentioned, has just ingressed into Aries. The message here is that our spiritual evolution is happening for a purpose and that is to prepare us for whatever upheaval may come in the physical realm.
During times of great instability, spiritual leaders are sought out more than ever. At a time such as this one, many mystics may be pushed into roles of leadership as conventional leadership fails the majority of the population and more and more people seek unconventional guidance. It may also bring with it a wave of false prophets, so being discerning will be come increasingly important.
If you are spiritually sensitive and maintain a spiritual practice, your skills will increase in relevance in the years ahead. Don’t be surprised when your friends and loved ones seek you out for guidance. Prepare yourself now by grounding in your practice and developing systems for seeking direction from spirit.
While the near future may hold many potential upsets, it will also pave the way for the changes that many of us have been hoping for and dreaming of. These shifts are coming up very quickly, so it’s imperative that we begin to expand our spiritual practices today and prepare ourselves to become the light bearers that people will desperately need during the challenging times ahead.
