On this new moon in Cancer on June 25, at 5:31 AM CST, Jupiter will be conjunct, amplifying the healing powers of the Cancer new moon. The new moon summons the question, “How can I expand what nourishes me?”
Just 17 hours before the new moon, Jupiter enters into a Cazimi with the Sun. Cazimi is Arabic for "in the heart" and this is when there is a very close conjunction between a planet and the Sun, specifically when the planet is within 17 minutes of the arc of the Sun.
Jupiter’s positive qualities of abundance and expansion are amplified during a Cazimi. Being that Jupiter is the planet of luck and abundance, this is a make-a-wish moment and an opportunity to reflect on what we would personally like to draw in for the new moon in Cancer.
And the next day, during the New Moon, Jupiter at three degrees will be in a cozy conjunction with the Moon and Sun at four degrees of Cancer. There hasn’t been a conjunction this close in 71 years, since 1954 when the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter all met at exactly 8 degrees of Cancer.
Jupiter takes twelve Earth years to travel around the Sun, so this is the only Cancer new moon in the next twelve years where we will enjoy the expansive and lucky company of Jupiter as he visits his favorite sign.
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, creating a powerful combination where Jupiter's expansive qualities are channeled through Cancer's nurturing and protective nature.
When exalted, a planet’s best qualities are drawn out. In Cancer, Jupiter feels as though he has returned from a long journey to his long-lost lover. Cancer welcomes him home with open arms as he offers her the abundance and bounty he has gathered.
Cancer is a water sign associated with nurturing, emotional depth, family, home, and intuition. Cancer rules the breast, womb, and ovaries and represents the archetype of the divine mother, the central aspect of the triple moon goddess.
She is the creative life force and the nurturer of living things. Jupiter in Cancer helps us become aware of what we need more of in our lives to be nourished. This combination encourages us to grow in our sense of inner security and expand into depth of emotion, tapping into deeper trust with our intuition.
Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system being about 11x wider, over 1,300x the volume, and 318x the mass of Earth. It’s mostly made of gas, unlike Earth’s rocky composition. Consequently, it is known as the planet of expansion, abundance, wisdom, luck, higher learning and expansion of consciousness.
The deity Jupiter, also known as Jove, is the god of the sky and thunder and king of the gods in ancient Roman religion and mythology. In Greek mythology, he is known as Zeus.
Jupiter was the chief deity of Roman state religion throughout the Republican and Imperial eras, until Christianity became the dominant religion of the Empire under Emperor Constantine (AD 306 to 337).
Coincidentally, one of the shadows of Jupiter in Cancer is a rise in nationalism. Cancer rules not only the home, but the nation as well. Jupiter’s expansive qualities enhance both the shadows and the light of the sign it visits. Already, this effect has made itself abundantly clear.
However, Jupiter also rules over international travel. So the question of where we call home will take on greater significance for many people over this next year, especially those who have personal planets in the cardinal signs: Cancer, Capricorn, Libra, and Aries.
Jupiter in Cancer may be calling people home. And if that home is not where they currently reside, some may find themselves drawn to a new country or feel called to a move homes—somewhere they will feel safe and nurtured. Nurtured is the key word because during the tumultuous times ahead, it’s imperative to have a safe haven to call home.
This new moon is deeply significant in that it’s the last new moon we will experience before Uranus enters Gemini on July 7, which last happened 84 years ago and has historically heralded troubling times of upheaval, especially in the United States. The U.S. experiences it’s Uranus return each time the planet returns to Gemini.
Uranus brings sudden change, innovation, and rebellion. It governs technology, the Internet, and unexpected events. The last three times Uranus entered Gemini were during WWII, the American Civil War, and the American Revolutionary War.
Uranus rules Aquarius and is also known as the planet of freedom and revolutionary vision, the urge for change, and the ability to visualize new possibilities.
At the same time, Pluto is in Aquarius for the first time in 248 years. Pluto will spend 20 years in Aquarius. We last witnessed this transit during the time of the American Revolutionary War and the French Revolution, which were followed by the Haitian Revolution.
The American Revolution robbed the Great British Empire of one of its most treasured colonial outposts, the French Revolution brought the aristocracy to its knees, and the Haitian Revolution challenged the Western colonial order. Out of it was born the first free and independent formerly colonized nation in the global south.
The revolutionary qualities of Uranus combined with the transformational power of Pluto is something we will want to embrace for ourselves. Yet, we will also want to brace ourselves. These transits historically heralded tectonic shifts in structures of global power.
This New Moon may be the calm before the storm, but it also says everything is going to be okay as we take steps to nourish ourselves, nurture our soul family, and find sanctuary within.
Cancer brings comfort and Jupiter brings the abundance to see us through to the other side. Jupiter in Cancer tells us to take care of and nourish the source of our inner safety, and to receive abundance as the source expands and grows.
Mercury, the planet of communication and intellect, spends a few more days in Cancer before moving into Leo and will be at the 28th degree (a Cancer degree) at the moment of the new moon. Mercury in Cancer is about nourishing the mind and shifting how we process our intuition and how we express what we feel into words.
Mercury in Cancer is deeply poetic and asks us to feel into our words, rather than just speaking from logic. Allowing our emotions to come through in our communication makes us more sensitive and attuned to subtle emotional cues. This period encourages expressing feelings and connecting with others on a deeper, more empathetic level.
All the while, Mercury is moving toward an opposition with Pluto, which will be exact on June 29th. Mercury opposite Pluto feels like an internal struggle with thoughts and concepts and how to rationalize and communicate them. It’s Cancer’s deep, empathetic nature that prepares us for that challenge.
During the new moon, Jupiter and the Sun and Moon are square Neptune and Saturn in Aries. The Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries brings a serious awakening from the delusions that clouded humanity’s vision when Neptune was in Pisces. It’s why we’ll need Cancer’s healing balm of self-forgiveness.
We may begin to realize that certain things we have believed were actually delusions or misconceptions. And it’s easy to be hard on ourselves when we come to understand that we have been wrong about something. Just know that this is a good sign. If you can recognize where you were wrong, that means you have grown and matured from that place.
The new moon is also exactly sextile Mars at 4 degrees Virgo. This aspect brings motivation to create rituals which will keep us going for the long term and help us keep up the momentum we have worked so hard to initiate in our lives through self-care.
Finally, Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, and the New Moon are forming a quincunx yod—an aspect that speaks to moving forward toward our destiny by breaking generational cycles, thus leading to a deeper intuition and enhancement of our spiritual gifts. The ritual of nurturing our sanctuary will fuel our transformation.
On this new moon, take a moment to think not only about the place you call home, but also about how much you feel at home within yourself. Ask yourself, “What are the ways I can build a sense of inner-sanctuary, no matter where I find myself physically.” This will be key to remaining steadfast, no matter what happens in the world around us.
